THE Jakhau Port is located about 160 kms from Bhuj, on the north-western shore of the Jakhau creek, in Kutch District. The surrounding headlands provide a natural breakwater, making the port an all-weather port. Port location is : Latitude : 230 14.5" North Longitude : 680 36.5" East.
The 'T' shaped jetty has been made on top of the existing jetty, standing 57 meters in length and 13 meters in width. The captive jetty of Goodearth Maritime, Jakhau Port Jetty has been designed by IIT Chennai and was constructed under their direct supervision. A conveyer belt is installed to load the barges to tranship the cargo to the ship at anchorage. The anchorage is an open roadstead. The bottom is of sand and mud, which forms good holding ground with gradually decreasing depth towards the coast.
The open sea is connected to the jetty through a channel where the natural depths vary from 2.6 mtrs to 10 mtrs. A sand bar having a least depth of 2.6 mtrs limits the available draught. Cargo is loaded into barges through the conveyor system and transported to mother vessel at an anchorage. On an average, 10,000 tonnes/day of cargo can be handled. The port plans to develop the stack area adjacent to port areas. Presently, the only cargo handled by this port is salt to foreign countries as well as to domestic consumers.
Jakhau Port has an effective 17,000 acre of saltpan, which has a capacity to produce large amount of salt. The old jetty was constructed in 1976. However, there had been no activity since then. Recently, the Government of Gujarat decided to have private participation for development of the port. It was handed over to Goodearth Maritime Limited, Chennai, on long-term lease for development of the facility in a joint venture with Gujarat Maritime Board. Transhipment operations are carried out only during the fair season. |

| Berth |
| The existing berth ie., a "T"-shaped jetty of 57 meters length is operational with natural depth of about 11 mtrs at berth. The tidal variation of 3 meters improves the available depth of the channel to 6 meters. Currently vessels up to about 50,000 DWT are being handled through transhipment operations. There is no physical limitation to the size of the vessels that can be handled as there is sufficient depth available at anchorage. |
| |
| Turning Basin And Berth Pocket |
| The port operations as of now are restricted to use of barges for loading and discharging the salt, which requires no turning basin, as sufficient depths are available for such operation. |

| Approach Channel |
The channel length is about 4 nm with a width of about 150 metres at the port mouth, used by barges and fishing boats. The depth at the entrance of the channel is around 2.5 metres. There are no navigational aids established.
The orientation of the approach channel aims at an acceptable nautical behaviour of the ship and is heading 070-250 degrees north. |
