On the threshold of Major Corporate Reforms

  • In view of growing competition from ports like Kandla & Mumbai and the newly developed private ports in the state, GMB believes that it is of utmost importance to enhance productivity and competitiveness. GMB is addressing this issue by executing a major project to re-structure the organization with the help of the internationally renowned consulting firm and the PODEG assistance.

  • Gujarat Maritime Board is conducting a major exercise to introduce contemporary double-entry accounting system. This project reflects the paradigm shift in the outlook of GMB as the changed accounting system will enable to evolve an accurate picture of business operations and performance of the organization. This accounting system will put GMB on a higher pedestal along with other corporate bodies in India and the world.

  • "GMB is contemplating to form a Retirement Benefit Trust, which is aimed to provide post retirement social security to its employees."

  • In line with sound corporate governance policies pursued by GMB, the concurrent audit by independent accountants is being put in place, which will serve as an effective control and monitoring mechanism for its business operations.

  • GMB has introduced Vessel Traffic Management System (VTMS) in Hazira-Magdalla channel to ensure navigational safety of the barges. Efforts are made to upgrade this system in phased manner with the assistance of Dutch experts of Port Development of Gujarat (PODEG) group.

  • With introduction of computerization in the corporate world, the fate of most businesses depends significantly on the extent of speedy communication and exchange of information. It is also becoming increasingly important to process the raw and voluminous data and convert the same into management information, which in turn may be used to facilitate speedy decisions. Fully cognizant of these developments, GMB has introduced Alang Information System (AIS) with an objective to facilitate faster exchange of information between Alang office and the head office at Gandhinagar. This system is aimed at strengthening the quality and timeliness aspects in decision-making process. The system will help in attaining full computerization of all the business processes at Alang office and bring in more transparency in the business transactions. The end beneficiaries of AIS will be apart from GMB, the ship breaking community at the yard.
