Magdalla is a lighterage Port. is situated on the west coast of India in southern Gujarat, on the southern bank of river Tapi,about 16 kms upstream.

Anchorage

The deep water anchorage is 10 Nautical Miles. South West from Magdalla Port. Tanker and Bulk carrier lighterage operations take place at deep water anchorage as nominated by the Port Officer. The available draft is 10 to 15 Mtrs.

Facilities:

  • G.B.Tug (Twin screw) – 1 no. of 470 BHP
  • Tata 320 Crawler mounted crane – 1no. of 18.50 m.t. and boom length of 40 feet.
  • Up to 3.5 mtrs. Draft lighters are operated by private parties, containers, lighters, roll-on-roll-off, etc.
  • Ro-Ro Lighters can call on L&T and KRIBHCO Jetties.
  • Storage Facilities:
  • Open Plots (Asphalted/R.C.C) – 6nos. with an area of 17,000 sq. mtrs.
  • Storage Godowns – 4nos., with an area of 2,814 sq. mtrs.
  • Office building – 5nos. with an area of 250 sq. mtrs.

Planned Activities:

  • The industrial development in South Gujarat, in general, and from Ankleshwar to Vapi, in particular, is already developed. A matching port facility for handling miscellaneous commodities is essential. Construction of two berths of 200 mtrs. Each at Hazira site on the South of Essar Jetty has been proposed.

  • VTMS : GMB has initiated steps to install a Vessel Traffic Management System (VTMS) in Hazira-Magdalla Channel.

Industries:
Essar (steel & LPG), Reliance (naphtha, LPG & chemicals), KRIBHCO (fertiliser), Larsen & Toubro (L&T) (cement/industrial cargoes), National Thermal Power Corp (coal/LNG) and ONCG, Narmada Cement Co. LTD (NCCL) and Gujarat Ambuja (cement);

Infrastructure:
Magdalla is connected to Surat by National Highway. The airport is situated only 4 kms away from the Port. It is well connected by rail and road with Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, North India and North Maharashtra, which are hinterland areas for the Port. Magdalla is connected with Udhna and Pandesara industrial estates, which are about ½ kms away from the Port.
