Not yet operational. This port is nominated as a
‘green field’ site for private investors.
Cargoes planned:
General cargo, containers And chemicals.
Trade estimate 2010:
2 mln tonnes.
Industries:
J.K. White Cement has proposed the
building of a 2mln tonnes/year cement production facility – to be
commissioned by 2002 - in the area. Due to ‘sea-erosion’ problems work has –
temporarily - been halted.
Industries planned:
Gujarat Heavy Chemicals Lt.
considering using Dholera as a substitute for Pipavav and Porbandar
for the trades to and from its plant at Sutrapada.
Products handled:
2 Mln tonnes of: cement/clinker, coal and oil products.
Infrastructure: Dholera will be connected with
the hinterland via a road connection to the Bhavnagar (11km
distance) – to Ahmedabad main road. Current road connections are
extremely poor, while rail connections are absent; The nearest (metre gauge connection is in Bhavnagar
(34km), the nearest broad gauge in Tarapur (103km distance).
Development:
The port is under construction,
with 8 dry cargo jetties, 3 for liquid products and a container
depot. It is to be an all weather direct-berthing port with a
distance of 3 km from the shore. The establishment of a chemical
estate, including facilities for the Gujarat Heavy Chemical Ltd., is
considered.
