• Awarding the consultancy tasks for environmental management issues as per relevant Govt./World Bank guidelines to reputed consultants/government agencies and monitoring the execution.
• Commissioning Environment Impact Assessment studies for the proposed port and related projects including fisheries ports.
• Obtaining Environmental clearances under the CRZ notification for port projects.
• Obtaining NOCs for new port projects from GPCB and coordinating the pollution related issues for existing ports. 
• Preparation of Environmental Management Plans for ports.
• Evolving the comprehensive waste management for Alang Sosiya Ship Breaking Yard as per latest regulations.
• Strengthening of Environment cell consisting of qualified & dedicated personnel.
• Associated with Space Application Centre and RESECO for preparing authenticated CRZ maps of port limit areas.
• Developing Coastal Information System based on GIS addressing environmental features in general.
• Developing a reference library of related literature to tackle new emerging challenges. 

FUTURE PLANS:

• Launching Environmental policy for the 1st time in port sector.
• Operation of dynamic coastal information system to identify sustainable sites for new development for whole coastal area of Gujarat.
• Development of proper Oil Spill Response Mechanism at GMB ports.
• Greenbelt development in & around port sites for pollution battement and aesthetic improvement.
• Certification of GMB ports under ISO-14001.
• Organizing training programmes and workshops on environmental issues.
• Identification of suitable spoil grounds for dredge material disposal for minimal environmental impact.
