Background:

The Government of Gujarat has embarked on the ambitious project of starting South Asia’s first world-class Ro-Ro Ferry service; linking Saurashtra with South Gujarat. The principal objective of this project is to facilitate the establishment of a vehicular and passenger ferry service across the Gulf of Cambay.
Purpose of organizing Road Shows in Mumbai and London:
- Build awareness about the Ro-Ro ferry service project in Gujarat
- Interaction between GMB and leading ferry service operators in the world to explore mutually beneficial opportunities for business; and resolve any questions/doubts
- Gather relevant inputs for structuring the upcoming EoI/ subsequent tender for appointing ferry/terminal operator
- Knowledge sharing on Ro-Ro ferry operations best practices and experiences
- Gain industry perspective on Gujarat’s future plans for expansion of services to other parts of the State and beyond
Under this project, the Gujarat Maritime Board is constructing RoRo terminals at Gogha (Bhavnagar District) and Dahej (Bharuch District) in the State of Gujarat, India. The terminals will provide berth accommodation for ferries; facilities for loading & unloading of vehicles & pedestrians and onshore terminal and administration facilities. World class ferry operators and other interested enterprises from the private sector, both domestic and international are now being invited by GMB to provide the ferry transportation service. The ferry operators will be required to provide a suitable number of ferry vessels and to operate the ferries with their own crew, in all weather round the year operations.
With a view of meeting interested ferry operators, GMB decided to organize road-shows in Mumbai and London on the 11th and 28th of June, 2012 respectively to familiarize potential ferry operators and other interested enterprises with the project.
