Disaster Management

Gujarat Maritime Board has prepared Disaster Management Plan for all ports of Gujarat ports. Each port is also having its own customised Disaster Management Plan to cope against the Disaster arising out of natural calamities.

Disaster is defined as an undesirable occurrence of events of such magnitude that adversely affects Ports activities. Ports handle cargoes of various commodities including highly volatile and flammable nature of solid, liquid and gaseous petroleum products. Inspite of the fact that every port is expected to take adequate steps to assess, minimize and wherever possible eliminate risks, accidents and fire etc. still natural calamity may still occur. Proper planning can only mitigate them, and to a large extend losses in terms of human lives, plant/port assets, environmental damage and costs to resume working can never be minimised.
